Holiday Clothing, Packing, Planning: Late Winter Breaks In 2010
The low-cost flight phenomenon may not be in its most waxing phase any more, but there are still many great deals available for people looking to get away in the early year to recharge their batteries (hey, Christmas hits hard in some families!). With early booking, we no doubt have a lot of time to organize and research a superb late winter getaway for ourselves. City breaks and multiple destination holidays are good examples of where we need to be a little more organized than two weeks around a pool in midsummer. So how do we go about planning?
The first thing to think about is the destination. Weekend breaks and travel holidays are a perfect way to get a taste for a place we’ve never imagined ourselves venturing out to. We can usually sum up quite quickly the types of places we’ve travelled to, and find exceptions within – perhaps we have never had the chance to take in the cultural wonders of a spiritual country, or have never travelled outside Western Europe; the criteria are many but we can all think of gaps in our travel knowledge, which is a good thing when choosing a place to fly off to!.
When we book a flight and are seeking out accommodation, it is sensible, especially with destinations with limited tourism infrastructure, to use the internet, and any guide books published. Over the years many hotel and hostel reviewing sites have become extremely exhaustive in their quest to provide impartial reviews of accommodation across the world. Whether it be a suite in a four-star hotel in Prague, or just somewhere safe and comfortable to rest after a long day’s exploring, it will stand you in good stead to get the lowdown on what other people are saying about your intended travel lodgings.
We also have the opportunity to prepare our itineraries, perhaps for extra preperatory brownie points along the way. When you’re off taking in the sights and sounds of a new city or country you want to get lost in it – sitting for hours in an internet café, tethered to the world back home is not everyone’s idea of proper travel! Save the bother by organizing and booking walks and tours before you leave, and take them along.
Packing just what you will need, and a little more that you’re likely to need, is a bit of a fine art. Holiday clothes for women and men this season are likely to make things a little more weighty, with record low temperatures persisting across Europe, so do your weather research before you pack. Jumpers, base layers and thick socks are ideal essentials. Cutting down on unnecessary items is a must – think of items which can be worn to dual purposes.
For your late winter break this year, take a little time beforehand to research these areas, and you’ll find that you have much more time to get on with enjoying yourself.
